Teaching and Learning in the Early Years (Pedagogy)

This online module is CPD Accredited with the CPD Accreditation Service.

This module is included in the Education Inspection Framework Explained course and in Childminding UK Membership.

The way in which we teach in the Early Years is known as our Pedagogy. It is possible, under the new Education Inspection Framework, that you may be asked by Ofsted about your Pedagogy, but you must be able to explain to Ofsted:

  • Your Intent - what is it that you intend to do to help children learn and why have you made the decision to provide the activities and experiences you have planned?
  • Your Implementation - How will you deliver the activities and experiences you have planned to meet the needs of specific children?
  • The Impact that your work with children has had- what have they learned? How do you know? Is it what you intended? What do you do next?

The activities and experiences you provide for children must meet all areas of the EYFS which is your Curriculum. The aim of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is to help children remember long-term what they have been taught through the activities and experiences you provide.

This module is intended to help you do that.

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand what Pedagogy means
  • Understand some of the major theories of teaching and learning
  • Understand that attachment, well-being and involvement are the foundations for children’s learning
  • Understand how children learn and develop
  • Be able to use the Characteristics of Effective Learning to inspire the way you teach in your setting.
  • Know what your pedagogy is (the way in which you teach children).

Childminding UK online training is available to you to either complete all at once or re-visit as many times as you need to depending on the time you have available. Unlike some online courses, there are no limits to how many times you can retake the Knowledge Test at the end of the course. Once successfully completed, you can print off your own named certificate for your record of ongoing Continuous Professional Development.

We will also send your name and email address along with details of this module to the CPD Accreditation Service who will email you your CPD Certificate showing the number of CPD hours you have earned. You can view their privacy statement on their website
