Play In this module we look at the profound importance of play for children. From evolutionary biology to brain growth, emotional well-being and even life expectancy the modules explore play not as an optional extra to childhood but as a fundamental foundation for all aspects of development. It is easy to say that Play is good for children but maybe what we need to be saying is that Play is profound, essential and life changing. This module gives us the knowledge to not just provide stimulating play opportunities for our children but to be able to stand up for a child’s right to play in a society that often undervalues this vital process.
Curiosity This module takes learners into the fascinating world of Curiosity. The module take a detailed look at this essential function as an instinctive part of the human brain and shows that providing stimulating, curiosity filled environments has the most incredible impact on our children. Sitting still listening to a grown-up is the least effective form of learning and these modules look at how engaging real-world curiosity through active learning can literally change the shape of our children’s brains making them learn more and crucially making them want to learn more. The module also look at curiosity as a fundamental building block for creativity, innovation and problem solving as well as an integral aspect of a vibrant and joyful childhood. This is what learning should really be about!
Nurturing Now more than ever children need to feel safe, cared for and important. This thought-provoking module look at the nurturing and attachment systems in every child’s brain and shows how childminders can profoundly impact on their children’s well-being, mental health and behaviour. The module look at the catastrophic damage caused by fear, anger and anxiety and show what we can do to support vulnerable children through positive interactions and secure attachments. Brand new research shows that just one positive adult can make the difference between a child thriving and a child struggling. This module can help childminders to be that one amazing adult.
