Support Neil’s charity work in The Gambia

May 15th, 2026

We all know and love Neil for his passion for reading, but his charity work in Africa is less well known. Neil founded Project Gambia to support five pre-schools in the region and also established The Starfish Malaria Project. Together, these initiatives work tirelessly to improve the lives of children and families across the area.

This year, we're giving conference attendees the opportunity to support Neil’s inspiring charity work.

How you can help

To get involved, simply fill a shoebox with useful resources for a child attending one of Neil’s schools. You may wish to complete this activity with your minded children. Once your shoebox is ready, simply bring it along to the conference and Neil will arrange shipping to Gambia.

Neil has provided a list of suggested resources:

  • pencils
  • crayons (wax or pencil)
  • felt pens
  • colouring books
  • erasers
  • pencil sharpeners
  • glue sticks
  • child size scissors (blunt ended)
  • rulers
  • coloured chalks
  • small writing pads
  • bar of soap in paper packaging
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrush
  • small packet of tissues
  • combs
  • facepaints
  • small bags of sweets (Haribo type)
  • balloons
  • small bubble mix (with tight lids!)
  • small balsa wood gliders

We hope you can find the opportunity to get involved and support Neil's work.
