The Pen Green Centre in Corby is a Stronger Practice Hub and they hosted a dedicated professional development morning for Childminders on Saturday 22nd February.

Childminding UK was delighted to attend and support the event, where Childminders had the opportunity to share their thoughts on what they would like from the Hub in the future. The consensus was that:

• There is a strong preference for more face-to-face training and development opportunities.
• Childminders would prefer these to be held on a Saturday morning.
• These should be held once a term.

At the event, Pen Green’s Childminder Partner, shared insights from her recent Ofsted inspection, where she was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating. She spoke about her experience of spending all day outdoors with the children in the forest or wooded areas engaging in Forest School activities with the children. Following this, Childminders felt it would be extremely valuable to attend an outdoor session where they can have the opportunity to experiment with outdoor activities themselves. Pen Green is therefore planning to open its outdoor provision for the next session and Pen Green’s Childminder Partner will be running a special outdoor experience for Childminders. Dates and times for this session will be confirmed soon.
