Working with Parents

This online module is CPD Accredited with the CPD Accreditation Service.

Working effectively with parents is key to building successful childminding arrangements with children and their families.

This module will explore what the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements are before breaking down what is needed to help build and maintain lasting effective relationships.

It will explain why working with parents is important for the child, the parent and the childminder and how to put strategies in place to help build these vital relationships right from the start. Communication is the key to success and so the module then covers communication skills, including assertiveness and effective listening.

Understanding parents' needs, priorities and values will help you to consider the ways that parents will engage both initially and going forward.

After completing this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of building effective relationships with all parents
  • Put in place arrangements to introduce parents to different ways of working together from day 1
  • Use effective communication skills including effective listening
  • Consider parents' needs, priorities and wishes for their child(ren) and understand how to manage any conflict of values
  • Effectively plan and carry out any difficult conversations that are needed with parents
