Further to the announcement of the EYFS Statutory Framework 2026, Childminding UK's Safer Sleep course has been designed to help Early Years professionals understand the new safer sleep guidance and implement best practice to protect babies and young children in their care. Gain the knowledge and practical skills you need to reduce risks, meet your safeguarding responsibilities, and provide safe, consistent sleep routines in your setting.
£15.00As an Early Years professional, you have a duty of care to safeguard the health and wellbeing of every child in your setting, including during sleep times. As babies spend a significant proportion of their early lives asleep, creating a safe sleep environment is a fundamental part of high-quality childcare.
This course explores Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI), and Sudden and Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), helping you understand the risks, identify factors that may make some babies more vulnerable, and apply current safer sleep guidance with confidence.
While safer sleep advice is primarily aimed at babies under 12 months, the course also considers how key principles can support the wellbeing of older children during daytime naps.
By the end of this course, you will understand:
This practical course will give you the confidence to embed safer sleep practices into your everyday provision, helping to keep babies and young children safe while meeting your professional safeguarding responsibilities, as set out in the EYFS Statutory Framework 2026.
This course has helped me think more about how I can promote safer sleep in my setting and write an appropriate policy which covers all the areas it needs to Catherine - online training participant
