About this event

This two-hour live training session has been designed exclusively for Childminding UK members to explore curriculum and pedagogy in the unique context of childminding.

The first part of the session focuses on understanding and defining your curriculum, what it means for you as a childminder, how it reflects your values, and how it can evolve alongside the children in your care. Drawing on Ofsted’s Best Start in Life research, we’ll look at how the term ‘curriculum’ is used and how to confidently articulate what you already do to support children’s learning and development every day.

The second part moves into pedagogy and how you teach your curriculum content through the experiences, interactions and environments you provide. We’ll explore how childminders naturally weave learning into play, routines and real-life experiences, reassuring you that your intuitive, play-based practice continues to align with Ofsted’s expectations.

By the end of the session, you’ll feel clear and confident about how to describe your curriculum and pedagogy in ways that celebrate what makes childminding unique.

Topics covered

  • How Ofsted defines ‘curriculum’ and what this means in a childminding setting
  • Ways to describe your own curriculum that reflect your unique approach and values
  • How to link everyday play and routines to curriculum intent, implementation and impact
  • The meaning of ‘pedagogy’ and how it applies to childminding practice
  • Confidence in using Ofsted’s language to describe your naturally occurring, play-based teaching
