About this module

Learn how to develop children's speech, language and vocabulary, and how to create a real love of reading. A love of reading is one of the most important skills we can give our children and this course includes input from our Patron and children's author, Neil Griffiths on how to do this. We then look at when and how to introduce phonics to children, the importance of teaching these skills correctly including a look at the 3 most common phonics programmes used in schools in England today.

This course will provide you with lots of activity ideas to do with the children on building core strength as well as those important shoulder, arm and hand muscles so that when the children are ready to write, they are able to do so successfully.

It is important when teaching children to read and write phonics that this is done in the correct way to ensure that they don't have to 'undo' any learning when they start school.

We look at muscle memory, the importance of enabling children to be imaginative, creative and curious through open ended play and how to involve parents in their children's learning.
