Ofsted registered childminders are self employed and owners of their business. As such you need to keep accurate records of income and expenditure, complete a self-assessment tax return each year and pay any Income Tax and National Insurance contributions that are due.

Our Accounts pack introduction and finance document has been rewritten to include the information needed for MTD and we have a brand-new Excel Spreadsheet particularly for those who use MTD accounting.

This comprehensive pack is designed to give you all the information you need to do all this without the need for an accountant. You will be able to put effective systems in place from the beginning and be confident you are meeting all the necessary requirements.

• What you need to do – how to keep accurate financial records and details about what expenses are allowable for a childminding business
• Accounts Record forms – includes templates for invoices, receipts, income and expenditure records. These are Excel spreadsheets that will do all the calculations for you but they are also all available in Word if you prefer. Please note that this guide does not include rules for people who set up a Limited Company.
