Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED) Environment Checklist


If you want to be sure that your setting is as effective as possible in providing for children’s PSED Development then this document is for you.

PSED is one of the three prime areas within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is divided into aspects for Self-confidence and self-awareness, Managing feelings and behaviour and Making relationships.

This checklist is an audit that is designed to help you look at the environments you provide to promote PSED within your setting.

It is divided into sections for self-confidence and self-awareness, managing feelings and behaviour and making relationships to make it easier for you to link observations around learning in these areas.

As you work through the checklist, tick the column that most reflects your setting. This list is not exhaustive, you will notice extra rows that are left blank in case you wish to add other statements that apply to your setting.

Once you have completed the checklist, it will help you to identify any areas where changes may be helpful. You can then use the Action Plan at the end of this document to record any changes you wish to make.
