About this course

This online qualification prepares learners to set up a home based childcare setting as a registered childminder.

The course is built of two elements – the Introductory Training Course on your Childminding UK dashboard and the Level 3 Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare NCFE CACHE qualification assessed on the OneFile platform. You will also have access to the FREE Food Hygiene module as a bonus (Saving you £35); this module is highly recommended for Level 3 learners.

The NCFE CACHE qualification consists of: Unit 1 provides learners with the knowledge required to work with children in a home based childcare setting. It covers subject areas such as:

  • legislation and regulation relating to home based childcare
  • safeguarding and child protection
  • health and safety in a home based childcare environment
  • promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
  • day-to-day care routines for children
  • working in partnership
  • children’s learning and development
  • play
  • the role of observation.

Unit 2 prepares learners to set up a home based childcare business. It covers:

  • leading and managing a home based childcare setting
  • financial and taxation requirements when setting up a home based childcare setting
  • creating a business plan
  • registration requirements for home based childcarers.

You will have access to an experienced tutor throughout your course, as well as access to videos and a useful Information Zone. All of the information that you will need to be able to complete your assignments will be provided through the 5 comprehensive modules that form the award winning Introductory Training Course:

Your Introductory Training Course supports your learning for the qualification and your ongoing practice as a registered childminder through the online delivery of the following modules:

  3. Safeguarding Children
  4. Developing Children’s Learning
  5. Leading and Managing a Childminding Setting

Your Food Hygiene Module is highly recommended and it a FREE part of this training course! It consists of:

  • Food related illness
  • Simple microbiology, toxins, spores, growth and death
  • How to use 'best before' and 'use by' dates on food
  • Pests and pets
  • Food allergy and intolerance
  • Effective hand washing
  • The 4 C's of food hygiene
  • Food Law and Regulations
  • Basic requirements of domestic kitchen and facilities
  • The role of Environmental Health officers
  • Records that childminders need to keep regarding food safety and food hygiene.
